Reporting on children and young people has its special challenges. In some instances the act of reporting on children places them or other children at risk of retribution or stigmatization.

UNICEF has developed these principles to assist journalists as they report on issues affecting children. They are offered as guidelines that UNICEF believes will help media to cover children in an age-appropriate and sensitive manner. The guidelines are meant to support the best intentions of ethical reporters: serving the public interest without compromising the rights of children.

Winnie the Pooh and friends eagerly wait for Christopher Robin at the see-saw for some playtime. But according to reports Christopher Robin has missed play time for quite sometime.

Winnie the Pooh and the residents of the Hundred Acre Wood are appealing to the community to ask the boy to return to the playground.

A similar case was reported by Puff the Magic Dragon - who lost his playmate too.

For the longest time - like New Year’s resolutions- I promised to update my blog. That thought started April 2005, its November 2006.

But strange things happen and like writings on the wall the call to blog is strong. Doubly so because my significant half started blogging a few days ago and has decided that its something she has got to do. In fact, she has a few articles in mind. She calls it Intuitions. Females do have a knack for this.

Now, back to the bug of blogging. While browsing the broadsheets this morning I came upon Pinoy Penman who has finished one year of blogging.

I love what the Pinoy Penman said about why he eventually joined the world of blogging :

“I’d resisted blogging for the longest time, thinking (correctly, as it turned out in my case) that it was something of an exercise in self-indulgence. But the attraction proved too strong—here, after all, was a digital soapbox for practically free, from where I could inflict my views about and on the universe with a few clicks of the mouse.”

I saw the potential of blogging in 2002 - when I came across the word while doing research for my graduate studies. Then there’s citizen journalism. Blogging has made waves around the world. We have read bloggers from behind the Bamboo Curtain. We have first-hand accounts from combatants fighting the war in Iraq and Afghanistan and other wars around the globe. Even if they were rants, raves, heartaches and pontifications the power of blogging is evident.

Now, my task is to look for nut grafs…wish me luck.

After hours fishing in the seas near the shore of La Union a fisherman shows his catch. According to him, this is the typical catch - not enough to bring to the market and just enough for one meal for the family. So, is the Social Weather Station right when it said that the Juan dela Cruz is starving?

Here’s something new! Apparently, watching TV can be benficial to parents. Although there has been numerous studies about the ill effects of watching TV. Will discuss that on another date. Here’s the article:

Watching Tv Can Improve Parenting And Child Behaviour

Watching television parenting programmes like ITV’s Driving Mum and Dad Mad really can help improve parenting skills and modify children’s behavioural problems, according to a study at The University of Manchester.

The six-part series followed the progress of five families whose children showed clear behavioural problems through Professor Matt Sanders’ ‘Triple P–Positive Parenting Programme,’ which provides guidance on parenting skills which promote good behavioural and emotional adjustment.

Ilocano websites

I found this neat website run by Ilocanos. It’s more of an online community where you get to meet new friends and catch up on happenings with the kailians. I signed up and within days kind-hearted and warm netizens welcome you. What is more amazing is that the netizens are related to people we know or used to live in areas we used to visit. There is Manong Roger - a truly warm person. The testimonies alone attest to his character. Then there’s Maricar - very prolific blogger and also a genuinely warm person. Sherma also comes to mind - she writes for a magazine and an interesting person, too. I find the name Dom Sina intriguing but a very accomodating person. These are just some the netizens that I find very pleasant. Try visiting : Iluko.com and go to the blog section. Also, there are tons of interesting links there.
